What it is
Dry eye occurs when tears evaporate too quickly or are not produced in sufficient quantity. Long screen hours, air-conditioned rooms, contact lens use and blocked eyelid glands are common contributors. It is generally a long-term condition that is managed rather than cured outright.
When you might need it
- Burning, itching, or a sandy or gritty feeling in the eyes
- Eyes tiring quickly during computer or phone use
- Watering eyes, which can itself be a sign of dryness
- Vision that blurs intermittently and clears when you blink
What happens during your visit
The tear film, blink pattern and eyelid glands are examined and other causes are ruled out. Treatment is matched to the cause and may include lubricating drops, warm compresses and lid hygiene, changes to screen and environment habits, and medicated drops in some cases.
Aftercare
Most plans need to be followed consistently for several weeks before the difference is clear. A review visit checks what is helping and adjusts the plan.
